FLORIAN HOUSE:
The Florians are characterised by the pale pink colour that epitomizes floral exuberance. The colour pink symbolises youth, tenderness and innocence. The motto of this tender yet a strong house is: ‘To serve and not to be served’, which is taken from Jesus’ words in Mathew 20:28: ‘Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.’ Fondly called as Little Flower or St.Therese of Child Jesus, also known St.Therese of Lisieux is the patron Saint of the Florians. Her virtues were described to be heroic and she stood for charity, prudence, faith, justice and fortitude. All through her life she surrendered herself to God and discovered the ‘Little Way’ en route to his merciful love. She strongly observed that the prayer of the little children was powerful and was the first thing that Jesus loved. Being one of the Doctors of the church, she says;
“I will seek out a means of getting to Heaven by a little way—very short and very straight, a little way that is wholly new”.
As a way of showing her love of God, she also said;
“Love proves itself by deeds, so how am I to show my love? … The only way I can prove my love is by scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every glance and word, and the doing of the least actions for love.”
Florians draw their inspiration from their patron and practise their motto. The staff play a vital role in motivating the members and is headed by Mr.M.Gary Sobers and her deputy Mrs.Shirley Martin With 22 members, the allegiance of the house is incredible. The school captain for the house is L.Thomas Barth of XII A1, assisted by S.Adhithi of XI C. The Florian feast is celebrated with fervor to remember their patron saint. A mass, a grand assembly and charitable deeds are executed blissfully. The primetime activity of every house is their role in sports and academics and the Florians as a brigade are no exception in these sectors.
JOSEPHITE HOUSE:
‘Onward we go and never backward’, is the high pitched clarion call of the Josephites. They are bright and fiery like the yellow, golden sun. They shimmer in the golden gleam of the celestial luminary. Yellow, over the ages has been perceived as a radiant hue of optimism, gentleness, spontaneity and family values such as happiness, culture, wisdom and harmony. So are the Josephites and their patron saint is the St.Joseph. St.Joseph was the father of Jesus. This singular man chosen as the spouse of Mother Mary kept his family safe and secure and would not let any harm come to them. He is a standing example of God’s attributes. This is one of the reasons why God himself handpicked St.Joseph to fill his shoes on earth for Christ’s sake. The Bible describes him as,
‘He was a just man’ (Mat 1:19).
He was a carpenter, a meagre job, but that did not stop him from taking care of his family. As the course of his life was set by the Almighty, he followed the instructions with no queries. His filial love was admired by Jesus himself. He was a hard worker and true to this are the Josephites.
Mr.S.Thomas Caroline and her deputy Mrs. J.Amalarani Siria Pushpa lead the yellow battalion along with 22 other members. The school captain for the house is A.Mary Amirtha Shivani of XII A3, assisted by D.Hariharan of XI B2. They prove to be an absolute challenge in sports and academics and indulge in healthy competition. They celebrate their feast day with joy to venerate their patron, St.Joseph. A beautiful prayer service followed by depictions and charitable deeds, are carried out every year.
MARIAN HOUSE:
The blue Marian house chose to be like the vast and endless ocean, like never ending waters. The house dons the colour of the vast empyrean. Blue stands for harmony, infinity, faith and confidence. With Mother Mary as their guardian, the Marians stand proud and true to her values. Virgin Mary was chosen by God to bring forth his only Son into the world. Mary, in the gospels is the embodiment of 10 distinct virtues and they are chastity, prudence, humility, faith, devotion, obedience, poverty, patience, charity and compassion. Her service to god and to his Son Jesus was incomparable and full of love. She is the motherly epitome without any doubt. In her likeness, the Marians shout out with joy their motto: ‘Live not for ourselves but always for others’. This explains the sacrificial core of their patron and their house.
Mother Mary in the bible says to the Lord,
“I am the Lord’s servant, … May your word to me be fulfilled.”
And the Bible explains her to be,
‘The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favoured! The Lord is with you.”’
The Marians are encouraged to uphold and observe the virtues of Mary. The Marian house comes under the guidance of Mrs.Tamilselvi and compatriot Mrs. Malarvizhi with 22 members. The school captain is A.Harish Tony Praveen of XII A2, assisted by A.Riya Nikita of XI C. The Marians excel in academics and sports that makes them quite the force. They celebrate and rejoice their patron on the Marian feast day with a delightful mass, prayer and significant charitable contributions are made. In the assembly children put up a skit, dance and sing songs, in honour of Mother Mary.
TERESIAN HOUSE:
The vast green mantle that shelters the earth is the colour of the Teresians. Flanked by St.Teresa of Avila, the Teresians loudly proclaim, ‘Charity and politeness to all’ is observed through St.Paul’s words in the Romans 13:3: ‘Do what is good, and you will have praise for the same.’ They are represented by the veil of Mother Nature which nurtures the earth. Green stands for growth, progress, peace and hope. It represents the green plants that are the visible grandeur of the earth. Trees and plants protect the land, like a mother to her child. They hold steadfast the soil and provide rigidity to the land. 2015 is the fifth centenary birth anniversary of St.Teresa of Avila and she elaborated the mystique of the ascent of soul in four stages namely Devotion of Heart, Devotion of Peace, Devotion of Union and Devotion of Ecstasy. She described prayer as a friendly conversation with God.
In one of her books, where she documented her visions and life events she says,
“Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing make you afraid.
All things are passing.
God alone never changes.
Patience gains all things.
If you have God you will want for nothing.
God alone suffices.”
To her prayer was the only and best solution to ward off all problems. The Teresians follow the footsteps of their patron and leave no stone unturned. They are spear-headed by Mr. Perumal and deputy, Mrs.Soofia along with 21 members. The school captain is S.Kirithika of XII A2, assisted by M.Tamilmani of XI C. They revere their patron with absolute devotion on their feast day with a mass and prayer and charitable contributions are made. The Teresians show vigour both in sports and academic activities and are a force to be reckoned. They are a vibrant and active lot that vies to be charitable and polite.
