Sacred Heart Convent was opened

Sacred Heart Convent was opened on 21st January 1938 on the feast day of St. Agnes. It was the first foundation outside of Kerala where our Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa had its origin. This single convent of ours threw the outposts of our mission far out into Tamil Nadu as a pioneer or pilot to further outposts in the mission field of the Lord. Tamil Nadu at that time was known as Madras State, and Villupuram the place in which our convent is now situated can date far back into the days when Madras State was honourably called the Madras Presidency. Our convent lies on the eastern limit of this Railway Colony, adjacent to the Parish Church of Christ the King. Our school served the families of this colony to whom we gratefully owe our presence for the largely Catholic Anglo-Indian community who live in the vicinity and in the surrounding area.
